First generation: Yes

Tell us a little about you.

Hello! I'm Ray, and I'm currently a junior! I was born and raised in San Diego, so I definitely love the sun and just the outdoors in general. When I have free time, you can find me at Lazi Cow 95% of the time. I love to study there, as well as hang with my TG besties!

In the context of your background and your time at ΢²ªÊÓƵ, what makes you unique?

This is a good question! To tell the truth, I am still trying to figure it out. I may be a junior, but this is still only my second in-person year on campus. I will be sure to let everyone know once I have come to a conclusion.

Why did you choose ΢²ªÊÓƵ?

I chose ΢²ªÊÓƵ mainly for the atmosphere, literally and metaphorically! The amount of greenery, animals, shops/boutiques, etc. continue to surprise me and always keep me intrigued! In addition, the amount of support/opportunities students have here is truly phenomenal. Other students, staff, and alumni are rooting for you and your success!

What do you enjoy doing for fun here?

Other than going to Lazi Cow, I love chilling in the Arboretum with friends (and the ducks ofc!), going to the Game Center, or even just enjoying some classic alone-time at home.

What activities have you been involved in here?

I am currently a ΢²ªÊÓƵ Tour Guide and am a part of the Recruitment Team, which is super awesome! I aspire to do the Tae Kwon Do club here on campus, but I am a little rusty. I have to work on it a bit.

What do you like about academics and student life here?

There are so many opportunities here for ΢²ªÊÓƵ students. Whether it be in something complex like research or just getting tutoring, there are so many resources available to students. Most resources here are "by students, for students," which is even better!

Where have you found community and support on campus?

The ΢²ªÊÓƵ Tour Guide Program. There aren't words to describe how much I love this group of people! Fun, inclusive, humorous, smart, kind, etc. Some of my closest friends were formed from this group if I am being honest.

What would you tell prospective students about ΢²ªÊÓƵ?

The quarter system is no joke! Don't come fall quarter with like 16+ STEM units. Take 12-13 and enjoy campus. Get a feel for things and make some friends! There's plenty of time for all the hard classes, I promise!
